WCATC CAD Students Help Friends, Providence ELS D.A.R.E., Too Sick for School, Picture Perfect WC, Follow us!, Event Reminders

Webster County Area Technology Center (WCATC) CAD Students are collaborating with district therapists to create adaptive 3D prints to make tasks more accessible for friends who need them. When district therapists identify a need, they contact Mrs. Willett, who then challenges her class to design and create the 3D print. 

The 6th-period Introduction to 3D Printing students have worked on several projects for district friends this semester. Rhett Hearrin designed a milk carton sleeve that prevents a friend from squeezing the carton too hard during mealtime. Spencer Hill and Rodney Williams are designing an attachment for a tricycle that keeps a student’s foot from slipping forward on the pedals during the ride. TeVaughn Dillard is designing a replacement battery cover for a water table. 

Mrs. Willett states this “is just the start of a fun year of problem-solving challenges that Meghan and the other therapists give us!” She further states that “students might need a few variations of their designs before they get to the final prototype, but it is a great way to learn about engineering design, prototyping, client needs, problem-solving, and more. The collaboration gives them a real-life problem that needs a well-thought-out solution. Students also benefit from seeing their final product help others throughout the school.”

Providence SRO John Shofner, a certified D.A.R.E instructor, has received support from Webster County KY - ASAP (KY Agency for Substance Abuse Policy) to purchase D.A.R.E curriculum resources to implement during his classroom visits. D.A.R.E teaches students decision-making for safe and healthy living.
